For Berliet, the beginning of the 1960s was rich in symbols. Indeed, this period saw the beginning of the Common Market and the lifting of customs barriers that were supposed to free up access to the German, Italian, Belgian and Dutch markets. The brand with the locomotive set up structures to enable it to position itself favourably in relation to these new markets and developed specific vehicles adapted to the codes of the new markets.

At the same time, Berliet maintained its export efforts, particularly in Black Africa, North Africa, Cuba and China. Finally, the Vénissieux-based manufacturer pursued a policy of intense renewal of its French range in order to be able to maintain its positions against its traditional competitors such as Saviem and Unic, but also against new competitors with long teeth from Germany, Italy and Great Britain.

The 1961-1963 period saw the presentation of the Relaxe M3 cab with bonnet, which had symbolic value since it was this cab that made the brand known or reinforced its image throughout the world. These are the years rich in events and novelties that we propose you to discover in this book.
